If you are building your MLM business the way that the industry is used to, you know that the rejection rate is pretty high. I know that. I used to go to fairs, events, malls trying to find people to have a look at my business. I spend hours and hours going one person after another, one rejection after another. But what was going on in my mind? What is going on in your mind when some tell you ‘no‘. At first I was disappointed but after a while I understood that it was “normal“. So my attitude was, after each person telling me ‘no’, to tell myself “it is normal, NEXT!” I was spending so much time and not seeing any results. There must be another way to do that. But I was told by my upline that it is how it is done. I consider myself a smart guy so why would I continue doing something that is eating up all my time without bringing any results?

So at that point, I decided to stop this madness and think for a little while, try to figure out how I could do this business in a smarter way. We heard it “work smarter, not harder“. So I asked myself 2 questions.

1. Why 99% of people I talk to say ‘no’ to me?

This was a tough question. It seems that it is the average number in the industry but why is that? For every 100 persons I will ask if they are interested in my MLM business, only 1 will give it a shot. This is crazy. Does that mean that 99 are not interested in making their life better? I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t understand this and I had to do more research.

Then one day, I was lucky to have an internet marketer telling me about marketing and especially attraction marketing and he introduced Mike Dillard Magnetic Sponsoring course to me. This totally changed how I built my business. I will never, ever, see my “prospecting” efforts the same way. This is so important that I require my new team partners to get a copy of the course if they don’t already have it. It’s cheap and it’s worth 100 times its price.

And it answered my first question. So many people are saying ‘no‘ because they are totally random and unqualified. Maybe it is the wrong timing, maybe they are not entrepreneurs or maybe they are happy with what they have in their life. Why would I spend hours and hours talking to people who are not ready to start a MLM business? There must be a way to only talk to people who are already interested in what I have to say and want to learn more about it. No more objections. No more of “is this one of those pyramid things?” to the very classic “is this network marketing?“. That would make building my business so much more enjoyable.

So I talked to the person who introduced me to Magnetic Sponsoring and he asked me this question:

What is your target market? Who do you want to be talking to about your business?

Have you asked yourself the question? I thought about it for quite some time because I never asked myself this before. I couldn’t come up with a good answer because for me I had to talk to EVERYONE! That’s what I’ve been told to do and most like what you have been told to do too.

So he helped me out and he told me there was three type of people:

1. People who are not qualified and are not looking at a business. Those are your friends and family members. We saw that we don’t want to talk to these people.
2. People who are brand new and have never tried having a MLM business but now about it and want to try.
3. People who already know the industry but are not successful for some reason and want to find out why?

The last 2 types of people are the ones we want to talk to because both are already in a state of mind where they know that they want to start a MLM business and do it correctly. Our goal is to find what their problems and questions are and answer to them. That’s it.

If you pick a laser targeted market like this, do you think that still 99% will reject you? No because they are looking for information in a first place. Your success rate will be much higher. Still, don’t expect to have 100% of people joining your business. Let’s say you improve your results to 50%. This would be good don’t you think?

After I thought about it the second question came to my mind.

2. Should I just leave the other 50% of people go away?

I mean, I put so much effort into talking to all these people, creating a relationship that it is a shame that once they say ‘no‘ to me, there is nothing I can do anymore. They will not change their mind. What can I do then?

This is where I reached a tipping point in my business. I asked the question around and I had a very interesting answer. I was told that by using a different approach to present my business to people I would be able to actually make money from people who say ‘no‘ to me.

I found out, that, if instead of presenting my opportunity right upfront, I was presenting myself as a person of knowledge, an “expert” in building a MLM business, then I would be able to show people how I personally build my own large business and how they could do the same. How would that work?

I would recommend some tools that I use, a MLM system obviously that I use and I would be able to generate affiliate commissions from these tools and programs. For example, I like to market through article marketing, so I would promote the article rewriter and article submitter that I use to submit my articles to 100s of article directories and create tons of traffic to my MLM Success Blog. When someone decides to buy the product, then I would earn a commission on this to help me pay for my other marketing efforts.

I would talk about my business in the background of course because this is the goal, but it wouldn’t matter to me if a person decided to join my team or not because I would still not completely “loose” this person, I would create some affiliate commissions. Isn’t that powerful?

If you have read my profile page, you probably know that I have a scientific background and I like everything that is based on a system and everything that can be explained step by step. In this post I will try to reverse engineer what it takes to reach MLM success or at least make any money in your MLM business. if you are not familiar with the term, reverse engineering consists of taking a finished product and starting from this finished state, putting it in pieces and analyzing all the different parts and steps it takes to get to the final product, going backwards.

So, how do I do that for MLM success? Let’s dig into it and we’ll see what we get. The goal is reach MLM success. So what do we need to do that?

7. What is reaching MLM success?

Some people thinking about this too quickly would say that it is “making money”. This answer is too limited. Being (financially) successful in MLM would mean becoming financially independent by generating residual income that will cover 100% of your life expenses. So this is the end results we want. Now, how do you create residual income? What is the step before that?

6. Creating Residual Income?

We could say that we create residual income when we build a large MLM organization. This is true but it’s not detailed enough. A better description would be to say that we create solid residual income when we find strong, motivated business partners and we teach them to do the same. Only when we have duplication we can be sure that we will create a true residual income, not based on our current actions, but on our team member’s actions.

5. So how do we create duplication?

This is where many network marketers fail to do it correctly. To create duplication you must use a MLM system that is independent of your primary business opportunity. You must have a system that will brand YOU instead of branding your MLM company or products. This for multiple reasons, one being that there are so many business opportunities out there that people nowadays want to join people that can help them reach MLM success and not join the “super business opportunity”.

4. Where would we find the MLM business partners?

To sponsor people, we need to find people to look at what we are personally doing. Those would be MLM prospects or MLM leads. This means that people would be interested in what we have to propose to them. Maybe they are not successful in their business and they want to change company. Maybe they don’t have a company yet and they want to find one. Why not ours, we have a good company and we can show them how to duplicate what we are doing.

3. Where do the MLM leads come from?

The leads are a portion of the visitors to your website, blog or MLM lead generation system. So to generate a lot of leads, you will have to generate a lot of traffic to your pages, to your system. If you design your lead capture pages properly, you may see a 20% conversion rate. If you are not an expert, you may see 3% conversion. The higher the conversion, the better of course, so make sure you use pages that are professionally done or study many of them and “copy” what you see. Hey, how do you generate all this traffic?

2. Generate Traffic

This is the critical step and the tipping point of many network marketers. So many people get started in their MLM business and expect that they will see results by doing nothing. Well guess what? If you don’t generate traffic, or to say it differently, you do not talk to anybody about your business, nobody is going to know about it! So how do you generate this traffic? This is where many network marketers are told to make the list of the friends and family, do cold calling, distribute fliers in malls. This works if you put a huge effort into it. It worked for a long time. Personally I’d rather use more up-to-date methods by using the Internet to market. And this traffic can be driven from many sources depending on what marketing methods you decide to use. Personally I like article marketing.

So the first step in my reverse engineering study of a typical MLM business is…

1. Learning How To Do Marketing

Learning the different marketing methods available to create traffic is the first and most important step of all. This is the #1 thing you must know to even be able to start in your MLM business. Remember, we are going backward! If you don’t know how to do marketing, everything else is useless. If you pitch, present or try to convince, you will see a huge amount of rejection and you will not enjoy building your MLM business. If you learn how to do marketing, you will open a whole new window of opportunities that you don’t think are possible.

Conclusion

Here we are, at the number one thing you must do to start building your MLM business. Now, a word of caution here, there are dozens of different marketing methods to choose from and if you start to buy everything you can find to learn how to market, you will end up knowledgeable (with an empty wallet) but you won’t have anything you can apply because it is not structured.

I know what it is, because for many months I was focused on learning everything out there. Well guess what? There is an infinity amount of information available and I was not going anywhere. I probably have about 20GB of marketing material on my computer that I have read and understood but not applied. Don’t do the same mistake.

Now I have found the solution that works for me. It’s a MLM system that includes many aspects of the flow of building a business. By looking at the points above, the system that I use includes #1 with incredible training, #3 with professionally designed lead capture pages, #4 with a great way to present your business to your leads, #5 because everybody can use the same system and fully customize it for them and then #6 and #7 are more a result than a technical part.

The step #2 is where you have to work! Yes building a MLM business is hard work but it is simple with all the great MLM leaders doing the training and sponsors structure within the MLM system, it is an incredible masterpiece. I would not build my business without it!

Why do you think that is happening with so much information, so many trainings, tips, courses, etc. available to us offline and online? And as a related question, why some people with apparently the same “background” can make it while other struggles everyday and do not enjoy building their MLM business?

Since I started working on my MLM business I have met so many great people with all the will and focus needed to be successful but they were not. And it seemed that you couldn’t figure out why. What was missing?

I did a lot of research myself and I found out that there was actually 3 simple reasons why people would not reach MLM Success. If you are struggling, can that be your reasons too? Let’s have a look.

1. They do not understand the concept of marketing, let alone attraction marketing

Attraction marketing is not a new concept but was made available to the mass of network marketers by the Mike Dillard Magnetic Sponsoring program. I could spend hours and hours talking about this but I do not have the space not the wish to do that here. Mike Dillard does that perfectly but in a nutshell, the concept consist in positioning yourself as a person of knowledge so you will only attract people already interested in what you have to say. 2. They try to get before they give

Wrong way! What I mean is that they always talk about what is has done for “them” and do not focus on what it can do for other people. What do you think people care most about? What it has done for you or what it can do for them? Another example of this is what we can hear most network marketers say: “join my awesome MLM business and you will get this awesome training!” This is going the wrong way. What I always say is this: “Check out my awesome Free MLM Training. And, by the way if you are interested to use the system for your business or join my success team, check it out“. Which way do you think work better?

3. They try to recruit at the first contact

This makes me laugh of despair every time. Have you ever connected with someone on Facebook and you can see that they are network marketers because their wall is about “my super duper MLM business this” and “if you join my business today you will be rich next month that“. You send them a friend request and you get a “thank you” message that pretty mush says “Thanks for your friend request. Join my MLM business, it has changed my life, this is the best, you shouldn’t ignore this, bla bla bla!” Seriously? Network Marketing is a relationship business so create relationship, find out what people need, what people want, what are their problems are so maybe you can help them solve their problems. People are not looking for a business just to start a business. The only thing they are looking for is a solution to a problem. When you start helping people finding solutions, then you will find MLM success.

Here you have them. These are the core mistakes that people make when it comes to marketing their MLM business. If you noticed that you are doing one or more of those mistakes, then you must think about how you can stop doing them and find a solution to do it better.

All three problems explained here can be solved quite easily when you understand the concepts. There are numerous MLM system that can be used to market your business online using attraction marketing and by branding yourself as a leader to solve people’s problems.

For example, it’s a fact that countless network marketers are having problem generating leads to fuel their business or they can’t make money fast enough so they end up paying for their business expenses with money from their savings account. Do you think those are big enough problems that we can help solve? Absolutely. It’s huge!

Four or five months ago, I asked myself why I was not successful for so long and it is not a simple answer. Have you ever asked yourself the same question? If I try to answer that, I guess it would be a mix series of reasons why.

I also believe that this the reason why a large number of people quit their MLM business. Here are a few:

• I didn’t put enough effort into it. It’s quite easy to put the fault on others put the bottom line is that you get the success relative to the efforts you put into it.
• I quit some marketing methods to quickly. I couldn’t see any real results (positive or negative). Am I getting too impatient? Have you thought about this yourself?
• I learned the wrong things. To not put the blame on others, let’s say that I didn’t take full responsibility to learn whatever it takes to reach MLM success.

The good thing about asking yourself these kinds of questions is that it leads to a state of mind where change is possible. This is what I did. I did some more research online and I was lucky to find some great people who decided to help me and show me a new way of running a MLM business.

I discovered that the most important for all MLM business is to have a written business plan and to have a solid MLM system to build a strong business on.

So I created a very specific, goal oriented business plan with written and time limited goals. I will keep this private as it is very personal but my next step was to find an automated MLM system that I will be able to use to develop my business.

A MLM system is so important as it will allow you to automate the building process of your system based on 3 major reasons:

1. The MLM system will help find more prospects. Using innovative and up-to-date marketing methods will allow you to have people to talk to everyday. This is the core of a successful business. How can someone build a MLM business without talking to new people every day? I believe that this is the core problem of the network marketing industry right now.
2. Create Cash Flow. Even if your prospects say ‘no’ to your MLM business, you will be able to make money with them so you won’t have to pick in your savings account to pay for your business. You will be able to create multiple streams of income, which means that you will not rely only on one way to make money and you can pay for your marketing efforts to grow your MLM business.
3. Duplication! This is so crucial. Imagine having all your new personal sponsored people going through your system and seeing how it is done. When they ask you: “So how do I build my business?” Your answer will be: “Use this system. Observe and let’s work together to have you do what I do!”. And you are done.

If you pick the right MLM system, you won’t have to spend hours creating new training for your team, it will be already available in the system itself. This will save you hours while you can focus on doing what makes you money, calling your MLM prospects for example.

Since I have found the MLM system that I currently use, I don’t have to worry about creating any MLM training or having any duplication issue, having any objections coming up, etc. This makes building my business so much more enjoyable and I can focus on what’s important which is creating a relationship with new people and talking to awesome marketers everyday.

Just for the fact that my MLM system only attracts people already interested in what I have to say is such an awesome feeling that I wouldn’t build my business without it!

This answer is so simple that I don’t understand why people do not really think about this before starting working on their marketing efforts. I have been involved in the MLM industry for some time and as far as I can remember, I have listened to my upline when it came to my marketing efforts. What did I know? I have a scientific engineering background, pretty far from any networking or marketing knowledge. They were the experts.

So I listened and I tried so hard to make it work. Can you relate? I did everything they told me: I made my list of my top 20 people, I made my list of my 200, I started to talk to them. Some were interested or so I thought. They were being nice with me. When it came to actually take any action, they were all too busy. And the few I managed to convince quit in less than 2 months.

Do you know why they quit and why 90% of people quit? It’s quite simple. People quit their MLM business for 2 main reasons:

1. They were poor quality MLM leads for me and they only had poor quality leads themselves. What I mean by that is that they were not looking at starting a business in a first place so why would they put any effort into it if they don’t have a strong “why”. Without an emotional “why”, you can not have any success. The first reason is the lack of quality leads.

2. This awesome MLM business was supposed to make them money. Unfortunately, they were spending way more than what they were making. They had to pay for a replicated company sponsored website to present all the products and the business opportunity. They had to pay for fliers and brochures. They had to pay for leads if they decided to buy some from a lead company. In 2 months they have spent over $1000 taken from their savings account and they have not made money fast enough. The second reason is the lack of quick cash flow.

This is it. This is why most people want to quit. It is that simple. Those are the pains and problems. If you can find a way to overcome both of those problems and show other people how they can do it too, you will see an explosion of your business and you will be able to enjoy the results of your hard work.

To overcome both problems you must find a way to find quality MLM leads to fuel your Network Marketing business and you must be able to monetize those leads to create some cash flow quickly enough.

A simple way to do that is to get a MLM system based on the concept of attraction marketing to start branding yourself instead of promoting your MLM company or your products. Mike Dillard was a waiter and unsuccessful in his MLM until he discovered what he called attraction marketing. He now is a multi million dollar earner.
